September is here, so that means it’s our favorite time of the year: National Honey Month! Now in its sixth year, our annual Honey Saves Hives campaign is back to help us make the month extra sweet. As honey bees face mounting challenges that threaten their habitats, it’s up to us to support them through our everyday choices. Lucky for you, we’re serving up sweet creations and activations all month long to inspire you to harness honey’s culinary power.
Honey in Your Home: Cooking with a Cause
One of the easiest places to support honey bees is in your own home. Buying that jar of honey not only supports hives, but it can elevate even the simplest of meals. To help you with your home cooking journey this month, Carolina Gelen, a bestselling cookbook author, is joining the Honey Saves Hives campaign to share approachable, tasty recipes that incorporate honey. For your daily dose of inspiration, be sure to follow Carolina on Instagram!
Even when you’re picking up your jar of honey off the shelf, inspiration can strike in the supermarket aisles. This year, the Honey Saves Hives campaign is partnering with Walmart
to provide in-store culinary demonstrations. On the weekends of September 5th
and September 19th, stop by your local Walmart to see an exclusive honey recipe from Walmart’s test lab showcased. After the demo, you’ll be on your way to cooking like a pro.
But if you’re not close to a Walmart, don’t fret! Our amazing Honey Saves Hives brand partners can be found nearby. Check your local grocery store for Justin’s, Just Ice Tea, Bachan’s, Frönen, Kate’s Real Food, Barr Hill by Caledonia Spirits, and Sprecher. These brands prove their commitment to bees by using honey as a natural sweetener in their products, underscoring that a simple swap can make all the difference.
Eating Out? Choose Honey!
While supporting honey bees often starts at home, it doesn’t have to end there. Even when you dine at your favorite restaurants, you can make a change. In celebration of National Honey Month, bakeries, breweries and distilleries across the country are joining the Honey Saves Hives campaign and featuring honey on their menus. Visit our website
to see if your favorite bakery, brewery or distillery is participating.
If you’re based in New York City, you’re in for a real treat. From September 20-21, we’re hosting a food hall takeover at Time Out Market New York. There, renowned local chefs will come together to create delectable dishes that reimagine what honey can do. You don’t want to miss it!
Meet the Beekeepers
This month, cooking will go hand-in-hand with education because learning about honey is just as sweet as it tastes. The backbone of the honey industry is composed of the beekeepers who run the show. That’s why we’ll be highlighting our Celebrating Beekeeping vide series for our Honey Saves Hives campaign. Each video in the series takes a moment to pause and appreciate the humanity, hard work and craft behind honey production.
Someone who knows this very well is Hilary Kearney, a San Diego-based beekeeper and founder of Girl Next Door Honey. In her second year as a Honey Saves Hives partner, she gives a behind-the-scenes look at her day-to-day as a beekeeper and educates on the important role honey bees play in our ecosystem.
Honey Saves Hives Starts with You
This month, every spoonful of honey is a simple but meaningful way to support honey bees. Whether you’re eating out or trying a recipe at home, you’re joining a larger community effort. To learn more, visit www.honey.com or www.honeysaveshives.com.
